How to Stop Getting Ghosted by Prospects

A lot of reps think ghosting is just part of sales. They assume some buyers are just going to disappear no matter what. But top closers rarely get ghosted because they do not leave room for it to happen. If you are constantly chasing prospects who will not respond, here is how to fix it.


You Are Not Getting a Real Commitment on the Call

Most reps think a prospect saying “I need time to think” means they will actually think about it and get back to them. That is never how it works. If a buyer leaves the call without fully committing, they are gone.

  • Always push for a clear yes or no before the call ends.

  • If they try to delay, call it out and figure out what is stopping them.

  • Make them feel the weight of waiting so they understand why now is the best time to move forward.

Buyers who leave a call uncertain will always ghost you.


You Are Not Setting the Right Expectations

If a prospect feels like they can take their time, they will. That is why top closers make it clear that decisions happen on the call, not later.

  • Set the tone early by saying, “By the end of this call, we will decide if this is the right fit for you.”

  • Make them feel like follow-ups are not necessary because everything is being handled now.

  • Do not rely on hoping they will come back. Control the decision now.

If a buyer knows a follow-up is an option, they will take it. The best closers never give them that out.


You Are Not Creating Enough Urgency

People buy when they feel a real reason to act now. If they do not feel pressure to make a decision, they will delay it—and then ignore you.

  • Remind them why they booked the call in the first place.

  • Show them what happens if they wait and nothing changes.

  • Make the cost of inaction feel bigger than the cost of moving forward.

Urgency is what makes people buy. If you do not create it, they will disappear.


If you are getting ghosted, it is because you are not getting real commitments, setting strong expectations, or creating urgency. When you fix these things, prospects stop ignoring you and start closing.
